The 20th FEBS Young Scientist Forum (YSF), originally scheduled for 2020 in Lovran, Croatia and postponed to 2021, was finally held from 15 to 18 June 2021, for the first time ever in a virtual format.

The organization was achieved by our Society, the Croatian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, in cooperation with the Slovenian Biochemical Society.

The organizing committee was formed by members of both societies, and consisted of Maja Katalinić (chair), Morana Dulić, Nino Sinčić, Jerica Sabotič and Anja Pišlar. The organizing committee was supervised by Irene Díaz-Moreno, Chair of the FEBS Working Group on the Careers of Young Scientists. The virtual platform was managed by C-IN which provided impeccable technical support and guidance.

YSF 2021 brought together 101 doctoral and postdoctoral students from 32 countries whose society are a member of FEBS. The scientific program included four plenary lectures by eminent scientists, as well as seven short lectures by selected participants. The scientific program was complemented by practical exercises in which participants had the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, led by scientists and experts in the field of communication, writing and presentation of scientific results.

As part of the program, participants also presented their work through posters and one-minute presentations.

Scholarship opportunities within FEBS, EMBO and MSCA were also presented. According to participant feedback, together we created a successful congress that provided an excellent conference experience.Scholarship opportunities within FEBS, EMBO and MSCA were also presented.
